This pilot study in Dutch explores the possibilities, desirability and sensitivities when setting up a teacher database
Pilot study written by Frank Cörvers & Stan Vermeulen
To a database of students and graduates of the Radiant Teacher Education Programs for Primary Education (PABO) This study explores the possibilities, desirability and sensitivities when setting up a teacher database. In the multitude of data that are already available about the students before they start and after they have completed teacher education, the information about the progress and study performance during the education program seems to be the most important missing part of the data on graduate teachers. The main aim of this pilot study is to make an inventory of the opportunities that existing data in the information systems of teacher training colleges offer. The teacher database that we stand for in this pilot study contains data from students and curricula of teacher training courses combined with externally available databases. This involves the entry and characteristics of students, their progress in study and the mobility and success of (starting) teachers on the labour market. This can provide new insights into the effects of one curriculum compared to the other on the educational and working career of teachers.
