Fewer Dutch Graduates Opt for Immediate Higher Education Enrollment
− 1 min readNew ROA factsheets
Fewer Dutch secondary education graduates are directly transitioning to universities and universities of applied sciences. In 2022, 67% of havo graduates and 75% of vwo graduates enrolled in these types of higher education, compared to 71% and 84% respectively the previous year. More than one in five havo/vwo graduates were not enrolled in a study program in the Netherlands in the following school year. These graduates may have chosen to study abroad, enter the labour market, or take a gap year. Unlike graduates from havo and vwo, the steps following graduation for vmbo students from the 2021-2022 school year do not differ from the previous graduation cohort.
