Technology and artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI, are transforming education, work and business operations. Within this theme, we examine these changes from three perspectives: how AI influences education, how AI improves business efficiency, and how it affects the experience, well-being and use of skills of teachers, students and employees. Together with partners from education, business, politics, trade unions and science, we are researching how AI is changing tasks, skills and performance, and developing solutions to ensure that schools, teachers and pupils as well as businesses and employees benefit from the progress and that equality is promoted.

One of our projects, ai:conomics, for example, investigates how generative AI affects operational efficiency and the employee experience in business environments, in close collaboration with industry, policymakers and employee representatives. In the GPAI GenAI Experimental Study, we are investigating how generative AI can support doctors and improve diagnostic reasoning and clinical quality in all regions of the world. Together, these projects demonstrate how AI can deliver both economic and social benefits.
