Beroepenmobiliteit en de verwantschap van vaardigheden in het groene domein (Occupational mobility and skill similarity in the green domain)

This report examines potential and observed occupational mobility within the green domain and the role of education and training. Using CompetentNL data, we analyse the skill similarity between occupations by identifying, for each green occupation, the three occupations with the smallest upward and downward skill distances. We subsequently examine the relationship between skill distance and observed occupational mobility. We find that occupational mobility is generally limited when skill distances are large, whereas mobility occurs relatively more often between occupational groups with smaller skill distances. We also observe little mobility into and out of green occupational groups, especially compared with mobility between non-green occupational groups. We further analyse the underlying differences in the importance of skills between green and non-green occupations. Green occupations are characterised by a relatively greater importance of physical and technical skills, while differences in cognitive skills are limited. Finally, we find that formal reskilling and upskilling are relatively uncommon in the agriculture and nature sector.
