Janneke Pepels is a PhD candidate at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University. Her research focuses on predictors and long-term effects of grade retention in primary and secondary school, under supervision of professor Carla Haelermans and Dr Barbara Belfi. She is involved in the Erasmus+ project AlteR (alternatives for retention).
She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences (mental health track) and her research Master’s degree in Health Sciences at Maastricht University. Before joining ROA, she worked as a junior researcher studying risk factors of eosinophilic airway disease at the Medical Centre Leeuwarden (MCL).
