Uber app users, trips made, earnings and satisfaction

This independent research by the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market arises from the Social Charter between Uber and the municipality of Amsterdam and aims to provide a view on both the earnings and working hours of drivers who supply services via Uber in Amsterdam, as well as drivers' satisfaction with their work via Uber. The gross earnings of drivers who drive via Uber in Amsterdam average €32.32 per hour in 2022. Users of the app spend an average of 25 hours a week online. Drivers using the Uber app often have other activities: only 36% work extensively via Uber. The survey shows that flexible working is the main reason for drivers to work via Uber. About 9 in 10 drivers also prefer self-employment, work with flexible hours, and work with flexible income to the alternative characteristics in salaried work. More or less 44% are (very) satisfied with their work via Uber, while about a third of drivers are (very) dissatisfied. How drivers experienced the coronavirus crisis, however, determines their satisfaction. 63% of drivers who say they experienced little stress due to the Covid-19 crisis are (very) satisfied with their work via Uber. For drivers who experienced a negative impact of the Covid-19 crisis on their daily lives, job satisfaction is lower: of this group, about a third are (very) satisfied with their work via Uber.
