N. Ruijs
Nienke Ruijs is a senior researcher/project leader at Education Lab. In her research, she focusses on education policy and student outcomes. In Education Lab, she conducts and supervises projects in which we develop and evaluate interventions to mitigate the quantitative and qualitative teacher shortages in the Netherlands. Nienke particularly enjoys working together with schools and policy makers to design interventions that work for teachers and schools.
Before working at ROA, Nienke worked as a (senior) researcher at the Dutch Education Inspectorate. Prior to that, she has been working and studying at several education related departments at the University of Amsterdam: she worked as a postdoc at education sciences, obtained her PhD at the faculty of economics and business. She also obtained her master degree in developmental psychology and a research master degree in educational sciences there.
Together with colleagues at the Dutch Education Inspectorate and the VU, Nienke is also running several projects about students with Special Educational Needs. In one of these projects, she studies the impact of special education on students with SEN using a budget cut in several regions in the Netherlands. Nienke has published papers in journals such as Economics of Education Review and Education Finance and Policy.
