Sjeng Kremers Award won by former ROA PhD student Inge Hooijen

On 22 November, Inge Hooijen received the Sjeng Kremers Award for the best dissertation on research into the restructuring and renewal of regions in the social and economic field. Inge Hooijen was awarded the prize in the PhD category for her dissertation Place attractiveness: A study of the determinants playing a role in residential settlement behaviour — Maastricht University. Inge is a former PhD student at ROA and defended her dissertation successfully in February 2021. She has been supervised by Frank Cörvers and Christoph Meng.

The Sjeng Kremers Award is a prestigious award with entries from all over the country. For PhD students, there is a cash prize of no less than 5,000 euros available if you win the prize. The Kremers Award is awarded every two years. By creating the Kremers Award, Stichting Behoud Mijnhistorie (Foundation for the Preservation of Mining History) aims to encourage students and PhD candidates to study socio-economic innovation in regions and to write their thesis or dissertation on this topic.
